Sophie Ty, M.A.
Licensed School Psychologist
I feel fortunate to do work that fills my cup: supporting children, youth, and the adults in their lives in understanding their unique profiles and shaping lives aligned with their goals. My approach centers on exploring the constellation of factors that make each person who they are, identifying strengths and challenges, clarifying goals, and equipping people with the insight they need to make informed decisions.
In assessments, I enjoy taking on the role of a “brain detective.” I have extensive experience conducting bilingual (English/French) psychoeducational assessments, as well as assessments related to Community Living BC eligibility. I also bring significant experience working with children and youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including teaching skills and conducting screenings to support referrals for diagnostic assessments. Currently, a key area of focus for me is deepening my expertise to become a highly skilled and proficient assessor in this area.
In therapy, I integrate symptom-focused approaches such as cognitive-behavioural therapy with insight-oriented modalities like psychodynamic therapy. I believe lasting change stems from building self-awareness, appreciating emotion as valuable information, developing practical skills, and navigating the balance between acceptance and action. I offer both assessment and therapy services in English and French.
I am currently a doctoral student in School and Counselling Psychology at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (University of Toronto) and hold a Master’s degree in School Psychology from the University of British Columbia. I am a Licensed School Psychologist (CHCPBC) and a Registered Clinical Counsellor (BCACC). Professionally, I work in the New Westminster School District (SD40) and have also worked in the Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique (SD93). I am currently expanding my clinical experience through a practicum at Bloom Psychology Clinic under the supervision of Dr. Danielle Kingdon and Dr. Christopher Cardoso.
The road to Bloom has included many detours, and I’m delighted to be here—supporting children, youth, and the adults in their lives as they work toward their goals.
