Dr. Kyla Brophy
Provisionally Licensed Psychologist
I work with individuals and couples facing a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, complex trauma, relationship issues, life transitions, and identity concerns. My practice includes psychotherapy and assessment services for adults. Clients describe my style as warm, thoughtful, and compassionate – with humour when it helps.
At the heart of my work is a non-pathologizing, relational approach that honours the protective strategies you’ve developed, and helps you access the inner strengths that make healing possible. I believe that even when you feel overwhelmed or stuck, you carry the capacity for growth and change. When therapy offers genuine understanding, respect, and attunement, that change becomes possible.
My approach is integrative and evidence-based, drawing on CBT, third-wave therapies (e.g., ACT, mindfulness), and process-oriented and somatic modalities such as Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS – “parts work”). I work from a trauma-informed and culturally responsive lens, tailoring therapy to each person’s values, needs, and context. I also provide comprehensive psychological assessments for adults, including ADHD and psychodiagnostic evaluations, to support self-understanding and access to appropriate resources.
My clinical experience spans hospital-based mental health programs (including psychiatric tertiary care), university counselling centres, and private practice in psychology and neuropsychology clinics. I’ve published widely on self-compassion, emotion regulation, attachment, and psychometric assessment, and bring a research-informed perspective to my work.
I hold an MA and PhD in Counselling Psychology from McGill University, and an MSc in Gender Studies from the London School of Economics. I completed a CPA-accredited pre-doctoral residency at the University of British Columbia Counselling Centre. After completing my graduate training in Montreal, I was happy to return to Vancouver and am grateful to now live and work in a city I love. At Bloom, I am currently working under the supervision of Dr. Cardoso and Dr. Kingdon while completing the final steps toward registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.
